Fractured Futures
Drawing inspiration from her experience as a mixed-race queer womxn, King's vibrant textiles, captivating plant motifs, and enigmatic paper-covered figures transport us to dystopian settings in visually overstimulating settings. Their art resonates with Afrofuturist themes, illuminating the power of dreams as a means of navigating the complexities of identity and history. In this body of work escapism becomes a pathway to forge new narratives, transcending the limitations of the present. Inviting us to envision fractured futures where the past and present converge into an unsuccessful rendering of the future.
